Movie trailers that are better than the movies themselves.

Now we know why Cameron Diaz’s I’m-an-important-person-job in The Holiday was ‘movie trailer maker.’ Movie trailers have become their own independent art from, so much so that they can sabotage a movie by being too good for the full-length film to live up to. Battle: Los Angleses, in which a Marine platoon faces off against an alien invasion in Los Angeles (yaaawn), has one such a a trailer. The success of the trailer is largely owed to an eerily evocative song that plays throughout – after some digging we found out (courtesy of Gawker, who feels the same way we do) that the name of the song is: “Sun’s Gone Dim and The Sky’s Black” by Icelandic musician Jóhann Jóhannsson (website here). While we plan on skipping the movie, we are downloading the song!
